Bail Advice Scheme

Short Description

Students advise a client detained by the Immigration Service on a bail application.

Long Description

Taking part in the scheme provides students with the opportunity to advise a client in immigration detention.  Working in groups of 2 or 3, students visit a client in an immigration removal centre, take instructions and conduct follow-up research.  They also manage the client's file and draft a letter of advice.  BVC students at Bloomsbury then represent the client in court.

To take part, students must complete an induction including a training session and observe 2 contested bail hearings at the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber).

Students are supervised by a solicitor with experience in immigration.
