Broad Street Drop In

Short Description

“Helps provide support, advice and assistance to new and vulnerable communities in Coventry.”

Long Description

Broad Street New Community Drop-in welcomes anyone who walks through their doors needing help regardless of whether they are recent immigrants, asylum seekers or refugees. Many of them do not speak English as their native language and therefore have difficulty understanding certain documents or have trouble writing letters to various authorities. That is where Warwick students come in. Students are given quite a high level of autonomy to help deal with each case but experts on different matters such as tax are present to offer advice on more technical matters so you will never have to worry about being too out of your depth with anything! Translators are on hand as well to help bridge any communication barriers. That being said, having a second or third language is always much appreciated in a centre that attracts a multitude of nationalities.Training is conducted personally by Wendy Ohandjanian who founded the centre and will be a great learning experience as she has had spent many years working in this field. The project runs on Friday morning and requires just 2 hours of your time making this project even for those with heavy schedules a manageable one to be involved in. Getting involved with this project is a great opportunity to better understand the problems asylum seekers, refugees and even new immigrants face in a friendly unintimidating environment. Even more essentially, it gives you an opportunity to reach out and help.
